Sea
Otter Company History
Sea Otter have been building boats since 1990.
We first started with steel workboats and small tugs for the harbour
authorities and construction industry.
In 1992, Sea Otter moved into the leisure sector
with 17' and 22' narrowboats. These were first displayed at Nottingham
Boat Show. This show lead to us picking up a steady trickle of
orders and the company went from just a husband and wife team
to a total workforce of 9. This growth has involved moving premises
3 times until in 1995 we moved to Duckmanton which remained our
home for 5 years.
Our order book gained substantial pace when we
increased our boat size to 26' and positively exploded with the
introduction of a 31' boat. The increase in boat size lead to
us requiring more space and a bigger workshop. The solution was
to design, and have constructed, a purpose-built boat building
factory at Poolsbrook Country Park in
Staveley where we have now been situated for 5 years.
At around the time of moving into our new factory,
our boat portfolio increased to include Narrowboats ranging from
21-56FT, Dutch Barges, Centre Cockpit Cruisers, Wide Beam River
cruisers, House Boats and Sea Going Cruiser.
Sea Otter is now run by 3 partners Paul Hobson,
Anthony Hobson & Matthew Cowan. Who have been with the company
for over 9 years and look forward to taking company to new Heights.
