Owners Of Sea Otter Dutch Barge Adelphi
We are now sailing our third aluminium boat built by Sea Otter,
a 52’ by 12’8” shiny Dutch barge. Our first
boat was an ex demonstrator 40’ narrowboat which we bought
from Walton marine in 2001. We spent time cruising the Thames,
Wey and London ring and we were very pleased with the ergonomic
design giving max storage along with a pleasing and light interior.
The boat also had impeccable handling on the river Thames.
The engine and boat covered the whole Thames, the London ring
and then later, from Sawley marina to the Beale show on the Thames.
We also sailed the Leicester ring with confidence and ease.
Our second boat was a 51’ narrowboat, which we bought
at the NEC in February 2004 after having an offer we could not
refuse. We were offered the same price for our 40’ boat
as we paid for it two and a half years earlier and 626 hours travelling
later.
The 51’ boat took us to Llangollen in 2004. Then one morning
we were having a pump out at Sawley marina when along came ray
in his brand new 52’ Dutch barge.
The conversation went something like, “Hi Dave, how are
you doing? Do you want to do a deal on this boat? I will give
you what you paid for your boat up against this brand new Dutch
barge”. This was an offer I could not refuse. The deal was
done and we are now living temporarily at Sawley marina on “Adelphi”,
our shiny Dutch barge.
